“Green Remedies: Planting for Health and Healing”

On August 16, 2024, (32nd Shrawan, 2081) the Department of Environmental Science and Microbiology at Balkumari College organized a plantation program at the college’s botanical garden with the theme “Green Remedies: Planting for Health and Healing.” This initiative aimed to promote awareness of the health benefits of medicinal plants and their role in sustainable living.

The program witnessed the active participation of students, faculty members, and representatives from the Lions Club and Leo Club of Balkumari College. Over 20 medicinal plants were planted in the botanical garden, including species known for their therapeutic properties.

The event began at 7:00 AM with an opening address by the Program Incharge of the Faculty of Science Mr Anup Muni Bajracharya highlighting the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern science to promote health and well-being. Participants were also briefed on the medicinal uses of the plants being planted, emphasizing the need for conservation and responsible usage by Dr Manoj Kumar Lal Das, a Botany teacher.

The plantation program was not only a step toward greening the campus but also a valuable learning experience for the students. It reinforced the connection between environmental stewardship and community health, aligning with the broader objectives of the department and the college. The collaboration with the Lions Club and Leo Club added significant value to the event, demonstrating the strength of community partnerships in achieving common goals.

Overall, the “Green Remedies: Planting for Health and Healing” program was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and contributing to the college’s ongoing efforts to foster a healthy and sustainable environment.
